- Protect the future version of you.
Protect the future version of you.
You'll thank yourself later.
Most people make decisions based on convenience.
What’s easiest. What feels good now. What’s comfortable in the moment.
But the ones who build something lasting?
They don’t serve the moment.
They serve their future self.
That version of you…the one who’s calm, confident, respected, and fulfilled…
they don’t get built by accident.
They’re created by the standards you enforce now…
even when no one’s watching.
Especially when it’s inconvenient.
Because the truth is:
every decision you make is a deposit or a withdrawal against the future you say you want.
So when you hit snooze, over-explain, say yes out of guilt, or accept less than you know you deserve…
you’re not just tolerating a minor slip.
You’re taking something from the person you’re trying to become.
And over time, they stop showing up.
Not because they aren’t possible…
But because you stopped protecting them.
So here’s your challenge this week:
Before each key decision, big or small, pause and ask:
“What would the future version of me thank me for?”
Then do that.
Even when it’s harder.
Even when it’s quieter.
Even when it doesn’t look impressive to anyone else.
Because that version of you?
They’re waiting.
And every time you act like they already exist,
you bring them closer.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You need to be protective.
Because no one’s going to build the future you want for you.
And every standard you protect today becomes part of the story they’ll tell about you later.
Make it a good one.
To your greatness,
-James Michael Sama
